NaNoWriMo Participant BadgeIt’s that time of year again! National Novel Writing Month!

I almost didn’t get started on my project. Almost. But my classmate Su mentioned it during my class on Rhetorical Theory, and well, if that’s not the most random sign that I should start a project…I don’t know what is.

This year, I’m less focused about the actual “50K word count novel” project because of a number of reasons

  1. My primary creative project is probably under 50K. It will realistically take about 1/2 the word count.
  2. I am concurrently achieving word count finalizing a non-fiction technical paper.
  3. I also have a class paper/project for Rhetorical Theory due next month.
  4. I’ve made #2 and #3 fairly creative non-fiction topics so I’m okay with adding it to my madness.

Essentially, I am bending the rules, but honestly I think the best thing about NaNoWriMo is that it gives you this community and semi-collaborative push you don’t usually get as a writer. If we had that push all the time, would we need NaNoWriMo? Maybe not – except that it’s plenty of fun and that creative energy is just plenty awesome for the condensed amount of time.

On my editing and writing word count of my creative project, my friend Victoria stated: “You bitca. You’re already over 2100???”

See? Feel that community love?

Have fun my writing friends! May the word count be in your favor!
