I’m entering into Day 10 of NaNoWriMo with over 16,000 words. I’ve been either right on schedule or just slightly off. I think the system also does not take into account Day Light Savings!
I’m trying not to think too much on how I will rewrite this thing after I’ve completed the major body of work, mostly because I’m trying not to let it hold me back. It’s super easy as a writer to have ideas popping in your head that counter the ideas you already have going – which can be good, but in the attempt to get 50,000 words in by November 30th? The point is to just keep going.
Although I have about 5 friends working on this, only one friend I have is actually on/around the targeted word count. Writing can be super solitary, but what I like about NaNoWriMo is that you can be motivated by others to just keep trucking because they’re trucking too. I’m not a super competitive person and never really have been. I prefer to be a supportive person and encouraging person, and that’s how I approach it.
My favorite bit of NaNoWriMo “advice” that I’ve seen is actually from the Fake NaNoWriMo Tips Twitter (@FakeNNWMTips):
If you get stuck, have an elf show up. This works no matter your setting or genre. #nanowrimo
…granted this could because my book has elves in it!
Hope everyone else is keeping up with the pace!
