I’m a Los Angeles-based writer who has published technical non-fiction, creative non-fiction, fiction, and poetry. My experience as a professional writer supports my work in the digital web, strengthening my communication skills and understanding of audience.
User Advocate, Digital Strategist, & Social Media Consultant
With nearly fifteen years experience in web-based environments, I have honed a keen insight as a practitioner in web development and social media practices. I specialize in website analysis, web strategy, and social media implementation with a deep background in civic sector, non-profit, and the arts. I have designed user research projects, implemented user surveys, and developed research reports for web-based projects. I am comfortable working directly with designers and developers to complete both small-scale and large-scale web projects. In addition to day-to-day client work, I have also spoken at a number of conferences and workshops on the topics of online marketing and social media.
In my work, I advocate for the user and their experiences. I believe that understanding who the audience is and what they want is vital for the long-term success of any client project.
Researcher with Practical Experience and Academic Background
My academic background includes a B.A. in English Literature with a minor in Web Technologies & Applications. My skills as a writer are further strengthened by my Master in Professional Writing degree, an inter-disciplinary program including coursework in fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and screenwriting.
I believe in the strengths of practice and academic research, drawing from each as necessary to accomplish project goals. I am currently a doctoral student at Texas Tech University in their Technical Communication and Rhetoric program, where I have studied usability, document design, accessibility, and rhetoric. My research interests focus on online communities, participatory culture, and digital media.
